About Troop 374
Troop 374 is located in Florissant, Missouri.
Florissant is a suburb in North St. Louis County. We are members of the North Star District, Greater St. Louis Area Council #312 in St. Louis, Missouri.
Our Troop is sponsored by the North County Christian School of NCCS and supported by "Friends or Troop 374". We have been helping the youth of North St. Louis County since we were chartered in 1955.
Troop 374 is made up of registered scouts and adult volunteers. Together we try to understand the meaning of scouting and to bring the Scout Oath and Law out of the handbook and into our lives. Through weekly meetings and monthly camping trips, we strive towards the goal of developing young men into adults. At Christmas we provide a community service and build our operating budget by selling Christmas Trees. This is a LOT of fun, and it sure beats selling candy bars door to door.
From 1955 to 2013 Troop 374 was located in Bellefontaine Neighbors, Missouri. During that time the Troop was sponsored by the World Brotherhood Mens Club of Friedens Chapel . The Church was not built until 1957, so, the first meeting, held in the kitchen of the old White Mansion house on the property. There were six boys present. The Scoutmaster was named Ed Hurtel, the first committee meeting was held in the dinning room of Marty Benzen's house.
In 2012 Friedens Chapel closed it's doors and we then changed the charter to "Friends of Troop 374". We continued to meet in the unoccoupied building for over a year dealing with mold, bugs and a new church that seemed to be struggling to gain occupancy of the building. We also lost our member recruiting socket at Danforth Elementary, Gibson School and the Hazelwood Middle School. With no ability to recruit new members, were forced to consider looking for a new home.
