Eagle Scout Tim Wingfield
March - April 2005

3/10/05, my chaplain and I went with a convoy from our unit to visit an
Iraqi school, to bring candy, soccer balls (they love soccer but call it
football), a refrigerator, and a lot of other support items. The schedule
of the school is set to teach boys in the morning, and girls in the
afternoon. We were there in the morning, and they went crazy with
excitement from the moment they saw us driving up the street. These kids
love to have their pictures taken, and to shake hands and speak in English.
It was a lot of fun, and nice to see a different side of Iraq than what the
media shows or what rumors tell. It seemed that these kids were a blank
canvas waiting to be painted into what they would oneday become. They
showed no signs of prejudice, hate or anger. I hope and pray that no adults
will be able to ruin them. Personally, I think the war on terror will be
won through prayer, and by showing love, especially to the little ones like
these. Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for
the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.

Jared Fliegel provided the pictures of the sand storm (on page 2).
